Financial arrangements
Tuition fees
Anyone who is 18 years of age or older on August 1, 2024, and is enrolled in a BOL course or VAVO (full-time) must pay tuition for the 2024-2025 school year. The DUO payment request will be sent in mid-September 2024.
Payment can be made through Mijn DUO (in Dutch). You can pay the entire amount at once, or you can pay in 9 installments.
Visit the DUO website for more information on how and when to pay tuition.
If you are 18 or older on August 1 and enrolled in a dual or part-time course, you must pay tuition fees to Summa College. An e-invoice will be sent to your email address.
Eligibility for student financing
If you are 18 years of age or older and taking a BOL course, you can apply for a DUO student loan. The amount of your student loan depends on many different factors. You will find this out when you apply for a student loan (in Dutch). See also more information for students who are almost 18.
Entitled to Supplemental scholarship?
Many MBO students are also entitled to a Supplemental scholarship.
Student Fee scheme
The Student Fees Regulation describes procedures and amounts relating to statutory tuition fees (full-time) and course fees (part-time). Payments to school are made via iDEAL and through e-invoices. You can download the Student fees scheme (pdf) here.
MBO Student Fund
If you and/or your parents cannot afford the cost of books, laptops or clothing, you can apply to the MBO Student Fund. There are other situations where the MBO Student Fund can provide financial assistance. See which situation applies to you:
1. You are involved in co-determination and/or administration (target group I, II).
Together with your career teacher/mentor, you can submit a form with your motivation via the self-service portal on Summa's intranet. Financial compensation will be provided based on the time commitment.
2. You have delayed your studies due to special circumstances (Target Group IV).
If you have exhausted all other means of financing your studies, the MBO Student Fund will ensure that you do not have to interrupt your studies due to a lack of funds. You can submit an application together with your Care Coach or Care Coordinator from your course via the self-service portal on Summa’s intranet.
3. You are a full-time student under the age of 18 and your family has minimal financial resources (Target Group III).
For families with minimal financial resources, there is an opportunity to apply for a study expense allowance. You will be reimbursed for expenses such as books, laptops, and uniforms. Each application is monitored by the Career Teacher or Mentor. See MBO Student Fund rules (pdf, in Dutch). If in doubt, consult your career teacher/mentor.
An application can be submitted as soon as you receive the (new) list of learning resources from your course. Allocation and delivery of learning resources based on vouchers/emails from suppliers will take place within a few working days. No student/parent invoices will be refunded.
This MBO Student Fund course is only available to students under the age of 18 who are in full-time education. Stichting Leergeld in your home town will check the financial situation of your family. This Stichting Leergeld will provide you with a letter of recommendation, which you can use to contact your vocational teacher/mentor, who will complete the digital application with you. If you do not yet know who your career teacher/mentor is, please contact the administration of the school where you are enrolled. Click here for contact information.
Please contact Stichting Leergeld in your municipality as soon as possible for assistance in preparing the application.
4. You are 18 years or older.
If you are 18 years of age or older and are enrolled in an MBO course, you may be eligible to receive funding for your studies. See the DUO website for details. If you are doing a bbl course, you will receive a salary from your internship company. If you are 18 years or older, you cannot apply for the MBO Student Fund in most cases.
Safety Net
Summa College wants to prevent students from dropping out or interrupting their studies because of financial problems. For this reason, a safety net has been designed. If an undergraduate student is receiving little or no salary, or if an undergraduate student over the age of 18 needs additional assistance, the student may apply to the SBA Emergency Fund with the career instructor/mentor. Your career teacher/mentor can submit your request through the self-service portal on Summa's intranet.
MBO Student Fund Application Process
Once the application has been submitted, you will receive an acknowledgement of receipt at your school email address, followed by the outcome of the application review.
In case of a positive decision, you will receive an email from the suppliers of the requested educational resources on how to place the order. No advance payment is required, and no money is transferred to the applicant. Invoices will not be refunded. Awarded Learning Resources are issued by name and can only be ordered by the applicant.
